Time-lapse & weather

One of the biggest challenges we face when creating time-lapse videos is the weather.
Our cameras are often on site for years at a time, so need to be able deal with the worst conditions from all seasons.
There are various strategies we adopt to mitigate the negative effects of mother nature, such as:
- Extended visors to minimise rain on the lens.
- Good ventilation to prevent misting up.
- Robust camera housings to prevent water infiltration.
Two of the most crucial factors though are:
- Consideration of where the cameras are going to be installed (e.g. avoiding pointing them south, directly into the sun, where possible).
And:
- Encouraging the customer to have at least two cameras installed, from different angles, so that at least one of them captures the crucial moments (this is particularly important for short terms jobs, where the most significant actions occur in a matter of hours).
Combating the weather comes down to planning ahead and that all important ingredient - experience!
